You are viewing an Original 1960s US Civil Defense Geiger Counter. This cold war relic is "new old stock", meaning although it was originally manufactured in the 1960's, it is still Brand new in the original box, apparently having been stored in a government warehouse all these years.
The geiger counter or "radiological survey meter" as it is referred to on the box and accompanying literature is handheld, with the carrying handle on top. It has a measuring dial, and a switch to set it to various positions. The "CD" (Civil Defense) logo is painted on one side. The instrument is accompanied by a carrying case, shoulder strap and the original 20 page instruction manual.
As stated above, this item is mint condition, still in its original box, marked as having been manufactured by Victoreen Instrument Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. The cover of the instruction manual states that it was manufactured in 1964.
Operating condition is unknown, unit operates off of one "D" battery, according to the instruction manual. No battery is installed, and we have not tested the instrument, so no warranty is made as to whether or not this instrument is still in working condition, after having been stored for some 50+ years. Working or not, this is a great item from the cold war period.
